THE GREAT PEOPLE I VOLUNTEER WITH...

As you all know I do volunteer work at a local food bank...so I figured I would introduce you to some of them... this is Me and Don...he helps out by packing up the "A" bags...
This is the date check room..when the food from Feeding America comes in it has to be "date checked" It is separated by what it is but not for dates.....some of the stuff is way out dated...we figure it is from people who had a grandma or other relative who has passed on and instead of tossing it the family will donate the food from their cupboards.....if you do that please check dates some of the stuff is so old we cannot use it... One guy takes care of the date check room his name is Roy...

These are the other volunteers getting ready for "prayer time" we say the Lords prayer before we open the doors....or a different one if someone has one....

These are the "Family boxes" for families of 7 or more....these are what I pack up....I can usually do 8 in the 2 hours we are open.....

This is Rick (I think That's his name...lol) John...he picks on me endlessly...Don...Roy..and Kathy....

This is Gretchen and Bob....They do "intake"

This lovely lady is Colleen....she also helps out in intake......

these are two of the ladies that work upstairs (I work in the basement) the lady in pink is a nurse...One of the ..hmmm..I think there are 2 nurses......maybe 3...

the 2 other nurses....

We also give out clothes if the people need them.....we also get donations of appliances...

This is Bill......he greets people at the door....

The man in the grey shirt is Jim...he is the head of the food pantry...this is right before prayer time....when we get the announcements and he tells us if we get large donations from .....I do have more picks so maybe I wiil do a couple with each entry.....Have a great night all!

IF I HAD A DOLLAR.........

Well it happened today.......I lost my job......and if I Had a dollar for every time I heard.."What are you going to do now" I could retire......Or the other seemingly favorite "any plans?"
GEEEEEEZE can I stay in my jammies for a few fricken days?! I think I deserve it...after 9 days short of 22 years....lol....I think I might check out going back to school.. for what ..I'm not sure...My roomie cried when I got home(?!) I lose my job and she cries....I did get a bit teary eyed when I left after writing a nice e-mail to some of the people I have worked with over the years..and putting my "badge" in the little black box on the way out the door :(

Our planner took me and the other lady to lunch yesterday.......went to Botana's that was WAY good...ever in town and want great Mexican food....816 south 5th street...lol enchilada soup..HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended...matter of fact it's a MUST have.

anyway...that's it from me for now....

MY TRIP TO THE MUSEUM

On Saturday I went to the Milwaukee Public Museum to see the special exhibit...."The Dead Sea Scrolls and The Bible"

Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bible
Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bible: Ancient Artifacts, Timeless Treasures brings together archaeological objects and manuscripts to tell a story 2,000 years in the making.

Witness actual Dead Sea Scrolls and other early biblical artifacts to learn how transmission of these early writings has shaped the beliefs of Judaism and Christianity and influenced aspects of Islam.
The largest temporary exhibit ever produced by the Milwaukee Public Museum, Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bible explores the archaeological history of the Holy Land during the period the Scrolls were written, from the third century BCE through the first century CE.

The exhibit also tracks the discovery of the first Scrolls and subsequent realization of their extraordinary significance.

WOW !!!!!!!!! Was that a wonderful exhibit. Very interesting They had artifacts from the whole era ..and coins from that time..and the whole story on how the scrolls were found and how they pieced the pieces they could together, the first part of the exhibit was about Jerusalem about the time the Romans came. Was pretty neat.....it was a HUGE exhibit...took about 2 hours to go through the entire thing...we saw "facsimiles"of 3 nearly complete including the 24ft Great Isaiah Scroll..WOW...( I was starting to get annoyed at this time ..because all the "hype" for this exhibit...I wanted to see "real" scrolls.....) then there was also a ten minute film....then we went to another room of the exhibit and...there they were....real fragments from the scrolls...with pictures and translations above...... they also had some writings from later that were written on papyrus and not parchment...and then the had several bibles there was the oldest Masoretic
Bible...from 920to 950 CE..there was also a bible there from 1547!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And the
Giddieons Bible..you know the ones people steal from Motels/hotels...lol you know they are printed in..some town in Wisconsin!?..I did not know that....AND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they had 6 pages from The Saint John's Bible"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The first fully hand copied and illuminated Bible in 500 years!!!!.......OH it is BEAUTIFUL~being done somewhere in Minnesota....what beautiful work they are doing.....Then they had a pictorial on Golda Meir...she was raised here in Milwaukee.....
was wonderful to see and if this exhibit comes your way.....I think it is a must see.....
